Poetry reading set at Blue Whole Gallery
The community is invited to a free poetry reading event set for 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, at the Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St.
The gallery will host the Olympic Peninsula Authors reading of ekphrastic poems inspired by visual art. Ekphrasis is the ancient Greek tradition of describing a work of art in words, event organizers note. In modern times, it has come to refer to poetry that is inspired by visual art — such as the poem "The Starry Night" by Anne Sexton, who expresses her impression of Vincent Van Gogh's painting, "The Starry Night."
The poetry reading will feature local poets who have been invited to create and share their own ekphrastic poems based on art in the gallery. The poems will provide a new perspective on the artwork and offer a deeper understanding of the creative process behind each piece. Attendees can expect an engaging hour of poetry, art, and community. They will receive booklets of the poems written and have the opportunity to view the artwork up close.
"We are thrilled to bring together the talents of local writers and artists for this unique event," gallery board president Jolene Sanborn said. "Ekphrastic poetry is a powerful way to connect with art and inspire new ideas and interpretations."
Enjoy ‘Digital Origins’ at Sequim Civic Center
The Sequim Arts Commission host "Digital Origins: Creative Expression Through Technology," an exhibit that runs through June 28, in the Karen Kuznek-Reese Gallery at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St.
The exhibit is comprised of eight pieces of work by five artists.
Also on display is the community art project created at the Innovative Arts and Crafts Fair during the Sequim Irrigation Festival.
Regular gallery hours are 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
