After looking at Makita's 40V High-Torque Impact Wrench offerings, we wanted to delve into more of the brand's 40V max impact wrench lineup. Enter the Makita 40V Mid-Torque Impact Wrench, which offers mid-level power for those who don't need all the bells and whistles of the brand's high-torque models. Makita offers two mid-torque impact wrenches, although the only thing that sets them apart is a difference in anvil design (more on that later).

The GWT07Z and GWT08Z impact wrenches each offer up to 560 ft-lbs of fastening torque and 810 ft-lbs of nut-busting torque thanks to their brushless motors and Makita's XGT technology.

A 4-speed power selection helps you choose the right speed for the job, with max speeds of 2300 RPM. For impact rates, you’ll see up to 2900 IPM on the highest setting. A variable speed trigger lets you adjust your speed even further within your chosen power selection.

These impact wrenches also employ the same Full-Speed Mode that we saw in Makita's high-torque models. This mode further enhances efficiency by reducing the trigger pull needed to reach full speed.

This impact wrench features a relatively compact and lightweight profile, weighing just 6 pounds with a 2.5Ah battery.

For tough jobsite conditions, this tool uses Makita's XPT technology to provide dust and water resistance. It was also designed with reinforced gear housing for added durability.

Depending on your preference, there are two models available for this impact wrench— the GWT07 features a friction ring anvil and the GWT08 has a pin detent anvil.

The pin detent impact wrench retails for $369 as a bare tool and the friction ring model retails for $394. Both models are also available in kits, each including two 2.5Ah batteries and a charger, for $609. Makita backs your purchase with a 3-year warranty.
